kind words

'Stephanie brings a sense of spontaneous naturalness to her photographs—clear, light, and delicate—even when capturing deeply intimate and private moments, such as a family waking up together in the warmth of their bed in the early morning'. FOTOCULT
'Stephanie’s strength is that each image is almost a self-contained anecdote, but together they became a larger story. She has an eye for layered scenes, with a lot of small but important details, that convey a lot about this specialized world without becoming heavy-handed or cliché'. BRIAN FINKE/AFAR
Starting from the circus as a metaphor for life, Stephanie Gengotti immersed herself in the everyday world of small traveling circuses, exploring the possibility of a different kind of existence—one in which the centrality of emotional bonds and the freedom to move and express oneself in harmony with the environment make up for the hardships and precariousness of such a life. With images bathed in a warm, welcoming light and carefully shaped in their spontaneity, Circus Love – The Magical Life of Europe’s Family Circuses conveys a sense of peace one is tempted to call happiness.
